Join one of our scheduled team events. It's a fantastic way to meet fellow volunteers while tackling larger areas together.
New to the group? We can pair you with a local 'buddy' who knows the ropes and can show you the best spots to start.
Grab your kit and head out whenever suits you. Perfect for those who prefer a quiet walk at their own pace.
What you'll need
The basics are a litter-picker, a bag, a bag hoop and strong gloves, plus a hi-vis vest so you're easily seen. We can supply kit free of charge, and bags are available from the council depot in Bathgate. Full details, including how to request equipment, are on our Get kitted out page.
Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather - it's an outdoor activity, so always check the forecast before you set off.
Stay safe
A few simple habits keep litter picking the safe, enjoyable activity it should be: stick to public spaces like parks, quiet streets and verges, avoid fast or narrow roads, and never pick up anything sharp or hazardous such as broken glass, needles or chemical containers - report those instead. If you're picking alone, let someone know where you're going. Our Health & safety page covers everything in full, and it's well worth a read before your first pick.
After your pick
Once your bag's full, tie it securely and leave it somewhere the council van can reach it safely. Then report it so it gets collected - the how and where is on our Bags & reporting page.
Last but not least, share a photo in our Facebook group: where you picked, how many bags you filled, and anything unusual you turned up. Celebrating the wins keeps us all motivated - and then you can give yourself a well-earned pat on the back.
